No More Diff Lock
Well It started on a 4wd club run to Moore River , we set up camp in our favourite spot on the banks of the Moore River.
After camp was set up it was time for a hack to a nice sandy hill climb with some very deep ruts , i gave to hill a crack but alias the old independent front end just could not get the power down to terra firma.
So then came the really smart idea of gassing it up the hill as i bounced over the ruts i came to a stand still with a sickening bang.
I thought i just bottomed out but i all off a sudden only had one back wheel spinning , not good when you have a diff lock engaged
Oh crap i have snapped a axel , well $150 for a 2nd hand axel, $250 for repairs to the damaged locker and the paj was back on the road.
Here how the diff lock saga ends.
We spent last new years eve at Wellington Dam in Collie.
We decided to go for a hack on the Infamous Goat track which has a great reputation for breaking 4WDs , as i was soon to be another victim of the Goat Track.
I lead the group of 4bs down the rutted decent to the beginning of the climb up the Goat Track , with a first attempted the old Independent front end let me down again.
So again i decided more momentum was needed ( BAD IDEA ) bang there goes the 2nd axel , i could hear the locker leaking air from inside the diff and i knew it was a lot more damage to the locker this time.
After getting snatched up some nasty hills and some little pissy ones , it was time to limp back to Perth in front wheel drive.
I dropped the locker of to ARB to get repaired , the next day i got the news that the locker needed nearly $400 worth of parts , new carrier and pinion bearings plus my crown will and pinion had some damage from all the metal floating around my diff.
So i made an executive decision and bought a complete Lsd diff centre $350 and another 2nd hand axel $150 .
Well know i only have a Lsd in the rear and a ARB locker in bits sitting in my shed DOH!.
The moral of this sad story , DONT THRASH YOUR 4WD WHEN YOU HAVE A DIFF LOCK ENGAGED
