What’s a great trip this was, the weather was great except for the rain Friday night but the cloud cover kept it warm on Friday night around the campfire. Saturday we had a few drops in the morning but that the day turned out fine, due to no cloud cover on Saturday night it was bitterly cold, to a point where it was -2°c in the morning and we had ice on the tents and on the ground.
We had a few little mishap on the way down on Friday night, one was John missed the turnoff of the freeway. Hehehehe. Then we decided to stop at the server to await Joe to catch up, and of course John drove straight by us, dino was jumping up and down and waving his arms but to no avail and I was trying to calling him on the two-way radio, but alas John carried on driving, but we did catch up with him down the road. hehehehehe
We arrived down the icy Creek to have problems finding the main entrance as this was the first time for myself, and the GPS told me the campsite was about 100 metres away, we were helped by Kelly to find the right road in (next to the blue bin), but we were met by a locked gate and no key to be found under the front door mat, but in Kelly’s defence she was not too sure what the e-mail from Pommy Pete had exactly said were the key would-be. Not a problem for the West Coast 4x4 club we just lifted the gate and chain off the gate post and we were in.
Thanks to Kelly and Crawford for carrying the wood from the front gate (as it was locked) to the rotunda and started the fire before we arrived.
Saturday morning we had our drivers meeting at 9:30am and departed at 10 o’clock as planned, due to the size of the convoy (20 vehicles in total) I had decided to split the convoy up into two. Froggy took the first convoy of 12 vehicles and I took the remaining 8, 10 minutes later.
We were all surprised by the level of the river, I had not seen this high before. Bob crossing was closed with about an inch underwater, Toms Crossing was also closed and this was impossible by any vehicle.
THEN to start if off on Saturday I leave my camera at the camp site, that is way there is no photo of the trip on Saturday, but I have taken some video and compressed as a mpeg (see bottom of the web page for the links)
